Lajoya “Joya” Williams, MS, LPC-Associate
Joya is a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate, currently accepting new clients at a reduced/discounted rate under the guidance of Board Approved Supervisor Dr. Jinnelle V. Powell, Ph.D., LPC-S. Joya’s counseling journey began as an intern right here at DCC, and she has since earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Joya’s passion lies in serving marginalized populations, and before becoming a counselor, she dedicated her efforts to various nonprofit organizations, working towards positive change in the Coastal Bend community. Joya takes a client-centered and solution-focused approach to counseling, placing a strong emphasis on empathy, active listening, and individualized treatment plans tailored to each person’s unique needs.
While she has experience and is available to work with clients from all backgrounds, she particularly finds fulfillment in working with adolescents and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Joya’s primary goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their emotions, enhance their self-awareness, and develop the skills to lead more fulfilling lives.
When Joya is not counseling, you can often find her enjoying live music shows, hiking, traveling, or experimenting with her baking skills.
