When working with children, Sandy will engage in a non-directive, child-centered play therapy theoretical framework. Play is a child’s first language and toys are the language in which they communicate. Families are the building blocks for healthy child development, so she will also work with parents individually or as a couple to navigate the journey of family life.
Sandy’s view of human growth and development is humanistic, relational, and anti-deterministic. She believes that individuals possess the potential and knowledge to reach their goals and overcome barriers to wellness. She will be with you along the way to provide gentle, compassionate feedback, emotional support, and guidance on your path to healing. She practices person-centered/child-centered counseling with a focus on individual strengths, self-compassion, and self-acceptance. She also utilizes dialectical-behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, meeting clients where they are and building a relationship of trust, safety, and open communication. She is passionate about helping individuals discover their authentic selves and find greater value and meaning in their relationships and day-to-day lives.
Sandy’s hobbies include baking, spending time at the beach, visiting with family and friends, and traveling to new places. She loves to learn and is continuously enhancing her knowledge of counseling by attending workshops and conferences.
