    Richard Reitmann, MS, LPC

Richard Reitmann currently works in private practice out of Gulf Coast Psychology in Portland, Texas. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi with a Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Houston Baptist University in 2015. Before earning his master’s degree, Richard worked as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi and worked with Laity Lodge Family Camp. His previous work experiences influenced his view on counseling and showed him the importance of meaningful relationships. Richard believes that every individual, marriage, and family has their own story that comes with unique challenges and difficulties. These difficulties can lead to frustration and unwanted stress in life that can be difficult to navigate alone. Richard actively works to create the space to work through life’s difficulties. Richard believes there is no one-size-fits all approach to counseling and is comfortable in many theoretical approaches. However, he mainly utilizes the theoretical approaches of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family Systems Therapy. Richard is Gottman Level I certified and utilizes this approach when working with couples. When not working, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, watching or playing sports or anything he can find that keeps him active.
