Leslie “Les” Cockrell, MS, LPC Associate

MS, LPC-Associate
SUPERVISED BY: Jinnelle Veronique Powell, MS, LPC-S
Leslie, aka Les, is accepting new clients of all ages at a reduced/discounted rate under the supervision of Board Approved Supervisor Jinnelle V. Powell, MS, LPC-S.
Les earned his Master of Science in Professional Counseling with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2022. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2010, Les spent more than a decade working in the communications field, primarily in journalism.
Les is available to provide counseling to both individuals and couples. He is passionate about helping and advocating with traditionally marginalized populations and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. He has experience helping clients struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, grief and loss, and trauma.
Using tenets of person-centered counseling, Les approaches clients with genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. He employs Gestalt theory when conceptualizing clients’ issues and planning and implementing treatment. When used in therapy, Gestalt theory uses a present-centered focus on client issues and examines how different aspects of one’s “self” often engage in inner conflict, which can lead to symptoms associated with many mental health problems when they are not resolved. Interventions include having the client engage in roleplaying various parts of themselves, as well as members of the client’s family or social environment to uncover hidden emotions associated with conflict.
When he isn’t seeing clients, Les engages in a variety of creative arts (especially writing), hangs out with his family, and enjoys roleplaying games (both video and tabletop).
