    Clara is currently accepting new clients and provides services under the supervision of Board Approved Supervisor, Jinnelle V. Powell at a discounted/reduced fee. She is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern working on becoming fully licensed. She is available to help you reach your goals through her collaborative approach. She has open, immediate availability for daytime and evening appointments for both, in-person or telehealth counseling sessions. You choose which is more comfortable for you!

    Clara graduated from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi with a Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling and an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work earned in 2017.

    As a counselor, Clara utilizes a Humanistic approach demonstrating empathy, genuineness, and acceptance and she focuses on developing a strong therapeutic relationship to help clients meet their goals in counseling. Clara is Gottman Level I certified and utilizes this approach when working with couples. When working with families, she uses Family Systems therapy. Additionally, she may utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques in treatment.

    Clara has experience working with children ages 10 and up, adolescents, and adults with diverse issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, loss of a relationship, divorce, OCD behaviors, substance use and abuse, and grief and loss. She also has experience working with couples and families with various desires such as: resolving conflicts, exploring communication barriers, reestablishing connection, affection, and family rituals together.

    Clara has overcome a lot of obstacles in life and truly enjoys helping others. She enjoys helping others find hidden pieces about themselves, exploring them, and putting those pieces together to become whole. She believes every client is on a different journey and has different goals they are wishing to accomplish. You do not have to do this alone.

    Clara recognizes that in some cultures, seeking counseling could be considered a weakness. However, she believes it is more a strength because it shows a willingness to overcome.

    When not working, Clara enjoys riding her bicycle, watching a good movie, bowling, spending time with family and friends, and being productive.
